Ecstasy on the Surface
Leekyung Kang
August 21–September 27, 2019
Virtual experience in the digital form has transformed our perception of reality,
and our recognition of the physicality of space has been distorted. By leveraging
the tension between digital image and traditional mediums in her show Ecstasy on the Surface, , the 2019 Borgeson Artist in Residence, intensifies this distortion. Through mass
image duplication, its disorientation, randomness and repetition, there lies a co-existence
of the two- and three-dimensional worlds.
Kang earned her MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and BFA from Seoul National University. She has taught at Rhode Island School of Design, Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and Idaho State University. Kang has participated in several residencies, internationally including the Fountainhead fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and the Vermont Studio Center, and her work has been exhibited in South Korea, Doha, Qatar and throughout the U.S.
