Open to all students at Hope, the competitive Juried Student Show is an annual fixture in the De Pree gallery. Each year, the Department of Art and Art History invites a recognized artist or curator to select and judge the student work. 

is currently an associate professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Hammie received his BA from Coker College and MFA from the University of Connecticut. He is a visual artist working with themes related to cultural identity, social equity, narrative and the body in visual culture. Hammie’s portrait and allegory paintings draw from art history and media to deliver fresh ideals that explore the ways people of color and women are valued today.
