The annual Juried Student Art Show is being shown in the gallery of the De Pree Art Center through Sunday, Nov. 23.
The public is invited to the exhibition, curator’s talk and reception. Admission is free.
The competitive exhibition, open to all students at Hope, is an annual fixture in the De Pree gallery. Each year, the department of art and art history invites a recognized artist or curator to judge the student work.
This year’s guest juror, Paul Amenta, is the founder and curator of SiTE:LAB in Grand Rapids, creating pop-up installations in unique architectural environments. His curatorial work with SiTE:Lab earned the “nomadic” arts organization “Outstanding Venue Juried Award” given out by ArtPrize.
Amenta is a prominent figure in the West Michigan art scene, often serving multiple roles within his projects from curator and organizer to copywriter and public relations. In addition, he is also an assistant professor at Kendall College of Art & Design and draws from his background in sculpture and exhibitions, such as the Marvelli Gallery in New York and the Tokyo National University of Fine Art & Music in Tokyo, Japan.
He graduated from School of Visual Arts in New York City with an MFA in fine arts, and from Grand Valley State University with a BFA in sculpture and printmaking.
The De Pree Art Center is located at 160 E. 12th St., on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street. The regular gallery hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Gallery hours may be reduced during breaks and holidays. The gallery is handicapped accessible.
