The De Pree Art Center and Gallery at Hope College will present the exhibition “Dusk to Dusk: Unsettled, Unraveled, Unreal” from Friday, Aug. 28, through Saturday, Oct. 31.
There will be an opening reception at the De Pree Art Center and Gallery on Friday, Sept. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. that will coincide with the opening reception for the exhibition “Past Present East West” in the neighboring Kruizenga Art Museum. There will also be a curator’s talk and reception at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, in Winants Auditorium of Graves Hall.
The reception, exhibition, and curator’s talk are open to the public, although large groups wishing to tour the exhibition need to schedule in advance by calling the De Pree Art Center and Gallery at (616) 395-7500. Admission is free.
The exhibition is a collaborative project between the De Pree Gallery and the Grand Valley State University Art Gallery. This exhibition of global, contemporary art aims to turn a mirror on the collective world, examining individual isolation, political repression, and collective ennui during the decline of the industrial age.
Drawn from a private collection in the Netherlands, the exhibit features 32 works by international artists, including Louise Bourgeois, Gilbert & George, Richard Long, Edward Burtynsky, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Erwin Wurm, Erwin Olaf, James Aldridge, Salvador Dali, Tony Cragg, Marcel Dzama, Matthew Day Jackson and Ruud van Empel.
“Dusk to Dusk” was organized by the Samek Art Gallery at Bucknell University, curated by Richard Rinehart, director of the Samek Art Gallery, with works generously loaned from The Ekard Collection. The exhibition is toured by Curatorial Assistance Traveling Exhibitions of Pasadena, California.
The gallery is open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with reduced hours over breaks and holidays. During the college's fall break, the gallery will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3-4, and may also have reduced hours during the lunch hour on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5-6. Visitors planning to visit the gallery during the early afternoon on Oct. 5-6 should call the De Pree Art Center and Gallery at (616) 395-7500 to confirm the gallery's availability.
