The De Pree Art Center and Gallery at Hope College will feature work by Argentinian artist Maria Burundarena in the exhibition 鈥淗olograma De Un Recuerdo/Hologram of a Memory鈥� from Friday, Oct. 13, through Thursday, Nov. 9.
There will be an artist鈥檚 talk on Friday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m. in Cook Auditorium in the De Pree Art Center, with an opening reception following.
The public is invited to the exhibition, artist鈥檚 talk and opening reception. Admission to each is free.
The exhibition presents Burundarena鈥檚 work since moving to the United States. During this period, she has been playing with finding pleasure and uncovering desire through the sense of discovery. Using photography, print media and collage, she cuts out, reassembles, and condenses pieces of reality to play with multiple dimensions and velocities. Thus, the viewer becomes so entranced by the images formed with the interference of light they inevitably escape to the new reality where holographic memory takes them.
Maria Burundarena was born in 1989 in Paris, France, and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is currently based in Chicago. She is a visual artist and educator who has developed work as a textile designer and photographer printing different narratives in diverse objects and environments such as garments, sculptures, installations and LED screens. Her work is currently focused on installations using large-scale printed images, light projection and reflective materials.
Burundarena has been exhibited at ZAZ 10 in Times Square, New York, Comfort Station, Compound Yellow, Chicago Athletic Association, Mayfield, Mana Contemporary, The Franklin, Heaven Gallery, and Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago. In 2016, she received a BFA in Fashion Design from the Universidad de Buenos Aires (FADU), where she also worked as a lecturer between 2016 and 2018 in the Fashion Design Department. In 2022 she received an MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she is currently a lecturer in the Contemporary Practices Department.
