Faculty Participation

Commencement is an important milestone in the lives of our students. Full-time faculty are expected to participate in full academic regalia. Part-time faculty are invited to participate.

Faculty registration deadline is 8 a.m. on Monday, April 21.

If you do not have your own regalia, please make rental arrangements with the bookstore as soon as possible.

We look forward to seeing you at these important events. For additional information, please contact the Provost’s Office.

BACCALAUREATE SERVICES

9:30 and 11:30 a.m., Dimnent Chapel

Choose one of the two services. Be in line and ready to process at 9:15 a.m. for the first service or at 11:15 a.m. for the second service. The faculty will form an honor guard on the sidewalk between Dimnent and the Seminary Chapel for the graduates as they process from DeWitt to the Chapel. In the event of rain, meet in the basement of the Chapel, room 11.

BRUNCH BUFFET

10:45 a.m.–2 p.m., Phelps Hall only

Free brunch tickets are available from the Ticket Office in Anderson-Werkman for faculty participating in Baccalaureate and/or Commencement, and their immediate family (spouse, children). Order tickets by email or phone (x7890).

Tickets may be picked up at the ticket office beginning early April.

COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

3 p.m., Ray and Sue Smith Stadium or DeVos Fieldhouse

Weather announcements will be made at both Baccalaureate services and posted on Hope’s external and internal websites.

If your spouse, child or grandchild is graduating, you are invited to present his/her diploma at Commencement. Please indicate this on the registration form, and you will be sent further instructions closer to the day.

Ray and Sue Smith Stadium (Weather Permitting)

Faculty will gather in the south endzone on the football field and be ready to process at 2:30 p.m. The faculty processional will begin promptly at 2:50. The stadium parking lot will be reserved for handicapped parking only on a first come, first served basis. You will need a handicapped parking tag to park onsite. If you are able, please walk from campus to allow for more parking around the stadium for students’ families and guests.

DeVos Fieldhouse (inclement weather site)

Parking

If you are able, please park on campus and walk to the fieldhouse, to enable our guests, especially those with disabilities, to park at DeVos. If you do need to park at the fieldhouse, please contact the Provost’s Office for a parking pass.

Processional

There will be no faculty processional at the fieldhouse. Faculty (except for those on stage) will be seated in bleachers alongside the stage, with extra seating available in the front rows of student bleachers. Arrive through the west doors in cap and gown to be let into the arena. Be in the bleacher seats by 2:30 p.m. The students will process beginning at 2:50 p.m.
