The Jack Ridl Visiting Writers Series of Â鶹ÊÓƵ will feature poet and playright Rane Arroyo on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre.
The public is invited. Admission is free.

Arroyo is the author of seven chapbooks and five books of poetry, including "The Singing Shark," winner of the Carl Sandburg Poetry Award. Arroyo's poetry has won many awards and appeared not only in dozens of literary magazines but also in a wide variety of anthologies. Latino critic Ilan Stavans has called Rane Arroyo "a modern Elijah, a prophet in eternal exile . . . turning his poems into explorations of our divided self."

Arroyo will be reading in place of Cornelius Eady, who was originally scheduled, but will be unable to participate because he is recovering from surgery. A future time for Eady to visit Hope College is being determined.

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Jazz Ensemble will precede the reading at the Knickerbocker with a 6:30 p.m. performance.
